MATERIALS TESTING

Smith’s staff has an array of knowledge in materials testing we are one of the only firms in southeast New Mexico to offer welding inspection, with high strength bolting and structural steel. All construction inspection and material testing services provided by Smith are executed according to American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), and American Welding Society specifications. We also maintain Radioactive Material License number DM112-12 through the New Mexico Environment Department. Smith’s lab is fully qualified to perform testing and inspections on concrete, reinforcing steel, wood, masonry, rebar, roofing, welding, grout, mortar, soil, and asphalt.

Our lab personnel are certified by the American Concrete Institute (ACI), New Mexico Department of Transportation/Association of Contractors (NMDOT/ACNM) for Superpave, aggregates, soils, and asphalt processes. In addition, our technicians are certified in the use of nuclear densometers. Smith’s lab has the testing equipment to perform concrete compression tests, the Marshall and Superpave Tests for asphalt, proctor hammers for moisture density relationships, and nuclear densometers for densities.
